I am contacting you about the bill submitted by Representative Doug Thomas which would prohibit mandatory vaccinations and urge you to vote for this bill to go forward.
Maine has 186 legislators to fully represent the people of Maine, yet 10 will get to decide if this bill gets thrown out or is allowed to go forward. The people of Maine need to have an opportunity to be heard on this extremely important issue.
Other states are preparing for the removal of our natural rights to control what is put into our own bodies. The legislation that is being put in place in Massachusetts in particular allow for unwarranted searches and seizures and detainment, incarceration and fines if one objects to a mandatory vaccination program if an emergency is declared.
Governor Baldacci has declared an emergency. The people of Maine need the protections of Thomas’ Bill.
I urge you to stand in support of Thomas’ Bill to Prohibit Mandatory Vaccinations and to stand in support of the citizens of Maine.

People have sovereignty over their own bodies. Individual private health care decisions are part of current national debate. The H1N1 vaccine has not been thoroughly tested but distribution for mass vaccinations goes forward. The WHO issued this statement: “On the positive side, mass vaccination campaigns can generate significant safety data within a few weeks.”
This legislation needs to expedited. This is an emergency because the current pandemic threat is now. Governor Baldacci issued a Proclamation declaring a Civil Emergency. It is critical that the people of Maine be protected to make their own decisions regarding the care of their own bodies. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

SAMPLE LETTER #3:

H1N1: Maine declares civil emergency on September 3, 2009. Are we really in an emergency situation? What actually defines an emergency? The website, Ready.gov, addresses many relevant issues regarding “emergencies” but does not specifically outline Maine’s policy in the event of a catastrophe. It is up to each state and its’ citizens to determine policy.
At this time, according to the CDC, the swine flu vaccine is voluntary. However, there are many states in the process of amending laws or enacting new laws regarding what constitutes an emergency; exercising the right to demand MANDATORY vaccinations; the threat of confiscating private property; the threat of detention for non-compliance in an emergency situation; and denial of liability due to injury by healthcare providers administering vaccines.
Rep. Doug Thomas has submitted a bill, To Prohibit Mandatory Vaccinations, which will be presented to the Legislative Council on Oct. 15th. I believe that every person should have access to the vaccine but it should also be a personal decision. The bill should go forward, and if necessary, allow public hearings to allow citizens an opportunity to express an opinion. If we truly are in a “civil emergency” then this bill should be considered emergency legislation.
I am asking you to support Thomas’ Bill to prohibit mandatory vaccinations.
